Everything you need to know about earning from your solar system
Getting Started
How do I enroll my solar system?
Enrolling is simple and takes just a few minutes. Visit our homepage, click "Start for Free," and provide basic information about your solar system (address, utility provider, system size). We'll handle the rest - no hardware installation or manual reporting required.
What systems qualify?
Currently, we support California and Arizona solar systems that are less than 15 years old and have received Permission to Operate (PTO). Both residential and commercial systems qualify. Systems must be cash-purchased or financed (not leased, unless you're the TPO).
How much does it cost?
Free to join! We invest in the upfront certification costs and share revenue when TRECs are sold. Solar owners typically receive 50-80% of REC sales, while industry partners earn variable residuals based on portfolio volume.
Earnings & Payments
How and when do I get paid?
DCarbon aggregates, markets, and sells RECs on an ongoing basis. You receive quarterly statements showing RECs sold, pricing achieved, and payment amounts. Payments are distributed via direct deposit or check, depending on your preference.
How much can I earn?
Earnings depend on your system size, production, and market pricing for TRECs. For residential systems, owners can earn 1 point per kWh sent to the grid. Commercial systems can reduce solar costs by as much as 40% through TREC monetization. Contact us for a personalized estimate.
Does this affect my NEM credits or tax benefits?
No. TRECs are separate from Net Energy Metering (NEM) and have no impact on the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), MACRS depreciation, or any utility billing arrangements. You continue to receive all existing benefits.
Technical Details
How do you get production data?
We use automated utility meter integration with no hardware required. We collect interval data directly from utility systems through secure API connections, ensuring accurate tracking without any manual reporting on your part.
Can I enroll a leased system?
If you lease your system, the third-party owner (TPO) typically owns the TREC rights. We work directly with TPOs to enable enrollment for their portfolios. Contact us if you're a TPO or lease provider interested in monetizing your portfolio.
What is WREGIS?
WREGIS (Western Renewable Energy Generation Information System) is the official registry for tracking renewable energy generation in the Western U.S. All DCarbon TRECs are registered with WREGIS and meet CEC RPS eligibility requirements for California compliance markets.
